Armed Forces Service Medal


Awarded to an indiviual for participation in a campaign of a minimum of 3 months in duration in a military operation that is deemed to be a significant activity by the AFCOS; and (2) encounter no foreign armed opposition or imminent threat of hostile action.  This must included participating in all cycles, ACK all messages and completing a SITREP for each cycle of a campaign in a timely manner.

This award, authorized by Executive Order 12985, 11 January 1996, is awarded to members of the Armed Forces of the U.S. who, after 1 June 1992: (1) participate, or have participated, as members of U.S. military units, in a U.S. military operation that is deemed to be a significant activity by the Joint Chiefs of Staff; and (2) encounter no foreign armed opposition or imminent threat of hostile action.
