The Virtual Air Force Command's Virtual Air Combat Command, with headquarters at Langley AFB, Va., is the primary provider of air combat forces to America's Unified Combatant Commands. ACC operates fighter, bomber, reconnaissance, battle-management, rescue and theater airlift aircraft, as well as command, control, communications and intelligence systems. As a force provider, ACC organizes, trains, equips, and maintains combat-ready forces for rapid deployment and employment while ensuring strategic air defense forces are ready to meet the challenges of peacetime air sovereignty and wartime air defense. ACC provides nuclear forces for U.S. Strategic Command, theater air forces for the five geographical, unified commands -- U.S. Atlantic Command, U.S. Central Command, U.S. Southern Command, U.S. European Command -- and air defense forces for the North American Aerospace Defense Command. ACC also operates certain air mobility forces in support of U.S. Transportation Command. ACC prepares combat air forces to globally implement national policy. Air Combat Command resources include three numbered air forces: 1st Air Force, 8th Air Force, and 9th Air Force, and one direct reporting unit.
